"Contemporary architecture is defined by the simplification of its forms and the emphasis of horizontal and vertical lines. The lines and shapes that are created in architecture are what attract me to a building. The sheer mass of buildings and structures is also what catches my attention as they make me seem so small and insignificant. Creating my sculptures on the scale that I do gives the viewer the ability to walk up to a form and interact with it in a new way. Having this ability gives the viewer something that they normally wouldn’t be able to see in traditional architecture. Changing the scale and form of architectural elements gives me the freedom to take from what I have seen and to make something new. Using steel allows, me to create with little complication. I can bend it, shape it, cut it, add to it, and subtract from it which makes it the most fun and durable material to work with. Steel is what allows my sculpture to take on the lines, forms, and shapes that I have seen throughout my lifetime, and make them my own." Will Mantor
These works will be on display through December 8th.
